Roosevelt Island: Heidi (2nd Oct. 2021)
One thing I love about New York is that there are so many amazing locations and places to check out. This week I have a shoot I did at Roosevelt Island to share with you. Heidi recommended to me to shoot her there, and I actually never shot at this location before, so I was excited to make images with her.
Roosevelt Island formally known as Blackwell’s Island in the early 1900s, New Yorkers nicknamed the island Welfare Island after the asylums, prisons, and almshouses that were built there. At that time the island housed people with chronic or severe conditions that were not likely to be cured. These individuals, many with mental or physical disabilities, may have had trouble caring for themselves at home. Today the Roosevelt Island now house apartment buildings, hotels, restaurants and the famous Cornell Tech.
For our photoshoot Heidi did two looks, and we tried to incorporate Queens, Long Island City, and Manhattan in some of the images. We shot at golden hour which gave us perfect lighting conditions for our photoshoot, we also got some low light images after sunset. Overall for my first time being to Roosevelt Island I really enjoy viewing New York from a different side of the city, and I would recommend you visit on your next trip to New York. Below you can find the images from our evening photoshoot at Roosevelt Island. Sit back and enjoy the images we created, and I hope you have a good start to the new week.
